multiple genres

i have searched the old forums etc for an answer to this question, but there still seems no conclusive answer.

does the ipod itself actually support multiple genres?

i realise that some of the current software (ephpod, mc9 etc) does not currently support multiple genres, but do none of them support them and is it possible they may support them in the future or are they limited by the ipod itself in this respect?

by multiple genres, i mean giving one tag say, hip hop and gangsta rap, so one can navigate:

genres -> hip hop -> gangsta rap etc.

Is there some workaround?
Example, can you customise the interface so that it sorts by...
Genre -> Composer
or some other part of the ID3 tag that i would otherwise use.

In this case, one could put hip hop as the genre and the sub-genre in another area, say composer, year or something

Sorry about so many questions

:confused:

No, multiple genres are not supported at this time. Neither are sub-genres. Perhaps in a future update, but that's anyone's guess. There's not a simple workaround available that I know of.

Your best bet would probably be to use the sub-genres, and to create smart playlists that include the sub-genres. You wouldn't be able to browse by artist under the smart playlist, however.

You can also create your own genres that incorporate both genre and subgenre, so you can identify your categories as follows:
Hip-Hop: Gangsta
Hip-Hop: White Boys
Hip-Hop: Easter Bunny
etc.
