Hold switch when off drains battery?

This is weird. I had my iPod (v3 15gb) fully charged last night and I turned it off and put the hold switch ON.

I went to use it this morning, turned the hold switch OFF and then pressed play, only to find that the battery was dead.

What gives? I thought when the hold switch was on, only a miniscule amount of power was drained. Apples says the following:

"Even in sleep, iPod uses a small amount of current, and the battery slowly empties. Stored at optimal storage temperature, the battery will empty in 14 to 28 days."

We're not talking 14-28 days -- we're talking 8 hours!!

I noticed at least one other posting on this forum with someone who experienced the same thing. And in fact, when their hold switch was ON, the battery stayed charged. I called Apple and that is most definitely the OPPOSTITE of what should happen.

Anyone else experiencing this problem with the hold switch draingin the battery overnight??

has nothing to do with the hold switch. sometimes the ipod seems to discharge overnight. only happened to me once (at the beginning. i had had it for about a week). after a reset, the pod should work fine again. it hasn?t happened to me ever since. this was termed s.i.d.s. (sudden ipod death syndrome) on the old forum. check out the old fora for more info on s.i.d.s.
