I'd say keep a close eye on eBay. As people put up new iPods, contact them and see if they'll sell at a specific price. I got a brand new 10Gb gen 2 for $230 shipped. I think that was a good price, considering what most of them are going for. Of course, this assumes you catch the right person who needs/wants the quick sale and is willing to end the auction. BTW, this strictly goes against eBay's rules, but I've had luck doing it a few times.

According to today's exchange rates, ?147 equals $242, not $90. I'd say you got ripped off.

hmm... thats me not working things out right or hitting the right keys... .. i paid ?90 for my 5gb, which working at current exchange rates i think.. is $140 ish)

(new ipods are more expensive across here anyway 10gb = ?249 = $399)

$150 for a 5 GB iPod is a ####ed good deal. It's certainly not a rip-off. Don't be so silly, bmxcamel.

And do you NEED 10 GB or 15 GB, or just WANT that size?

And if you're going to jog with it, use it with sweaty fingers, or go on airplane flights of more than eight hours, maybe the 5 GB version is better anyway.

yes this often works. however, i'd be very cautious as you have absolutely no protection from ebay or paypal if you get burned.

Yes, that's always a possibility. I realize eBay wouldn't provide any protection in this scenario, but I think PayPal would, because you can use it to pay for non-auctions. But, I haven't had a problem with any sellers (and hopefully won't), so I haven't had to find out how good or bad PayPal's protection system is.
