Leaving HOLD switch on drains battery?

I read on the old forums that leaving the hold switch on for 1st/2nd gen. iPods drains the battery faster on standby than not putting the hold switch on. Is this a known flaw of the iPod, or just an isolated occurence, and how come this occurs? Thanks.

It doesn't occur. The switch just prevents the buttons from working...nothing more.

Do you have a link from the old forums where you read this? I don't remember seeing it. Besides, Adam is right - it is simply not true.
