Clicking between songs
Normally I use my iPod in the car, where the clicking-between-songs bug doesn't bother me. But I recently took my iPod on a business trip and primarily used headphones. Wow, that clicking sure bothered me.
For the life of me, I can't understand how Apple could ship a product with such a major bug--particularly since the Gen 2 iPods worked fine.
It's becoming increasingly clear that I paid $499 for buggy, beta hardware and software, and it ####es me off.

Don't worry, there will be a firmware out to fix it. Just don't listen so loud. ;)

can you be sure that it isn't a hardware issue? I can fairly easilly see it being a problem that firmware can't fix... and it bugs the living hell out of me too.

Yeah, it really bugs the hell out of me too. It's not terrible with normal albums that have gaps between tracks. But sometimes (often with modern musicals such as /Les Miserables/ which I was just listenning to yesterday) the transition from one song to the next has some soft instrumentals going on and that #### pop really ruins it!
I sincerely hope Apple puts out a fix for that soon. This really was a major oversight on their part. The iPod never should have been released with bugs this glaring (this and the left-right channel random flipping).

The channel flipping is also an outrageous bug that never should have been permitted to ship. That firmware fix had better come soon.

I've been waiting for a fix for almost a month now. Like everyone else, I assumed it would be in the next iPod update. I just read this on macintouch - it seems like the clicking might be a hardware problem. I will be very annoyed if I have to send it in to get this problem fixed.
Subject: iPod "Tick" Between Songs = A Known Hardware Issue
There is quite an extensive conversation at Apple's iPod Support Forum about an audible "tick" between songs on the new iPods.
Taking the advice of the Moderators there, I called AppleCare yesterday and was informed that this is a "known" issue" and a "hot topic." This morning an empty repair box arrived from Apple.
I have to assume that this is a hardware issue with the new iPods. I got my 30G from Dell just a week ago after a 2 week delay. Hate to be sending it right back.

Called Apple about it and the support person I spoke with was unaware of the issue. I mentioned your report and the Apple message boards. After less than a minute on hold the tech responded that it was indeed a known issue, but it was a software issue not a hardware problem. He specifically noted that the tech report said replacement iPods would not be sent as they would only duplicate the problem and that I should wait for a software update.
