Doubble Gen 2 Battery Life?

Hey,
I was thinking here?
What if say I bought a replacement Gen2 iPod batter from one of the various online retailers and wanted to use it in conjunction my original battery in my iPod.
Say I buy the battery, splice the wires connect red to red, black to black to my other battery then just reconnect to my iPod and power up.
I am sure it would power up, from what I learnt in grade 10 science (I am in grade 10) it will just double the length of my play time and not double the voltage.
So? Would this charge properly? U know, just take a while longer?
I am eager to try! The batteries are only 3 mm thick. I am sure I can find that much space in my iPod.

(yea the pic is bad, just did it in msn paint)?

i think they made everything to save space inside the ipod... it _shouldn't_ fit. but maybe you can have it outside and put the whole thing in a case or something-

I'm not sure how the charging works, but it might not charge up properly, it might only charge it up to a certain numerical amount, not percentage, also, I'm not sure how having 2x the battery would affect things like the power meter. You should inquire to people who have the external battery pack and find out how the ipod handles it (I know this is availible on the new iPods, not sure about the old ones).

3mm may not sound like much, but considering the ipod is 17mm thick that's 18% and a considerable amount of space in a unit with a rather rigid metal casing.

Before you go hacking up your iPod, you should :

1) wait until your warranty is over (as opening your ipod will kill any warranty you have)

2) check it out online (ex: (http://macfannet.mycom.co.jp/special/ipod_barashi/011031ipod_barashi.html = pics of the inside), just did a quick google search, I'm sure there's better out there

And I wouldn't even think about trying to fit the second battery inside the case, that is unless you want your iPod to be held together using duct tape or something. True, there is a certain amount of class that comes with keeping things together with duct tape, but I really don't think its worth it. Keeping the battery outside and just having wires run in really seems like the best way to go about this. If you use a leather case, or the apple carrying case, you should be fine, but you may want to wrap the battery in something so it doesn't scratch the outside of your pod.

Also, if you're forced to use tape for any reason (you may want to just tape the battery to the back of your pod), don't use duct tape. :D

Ya I found 3 mm of space in there. Opend her up replaced the blue thing with paper and put 3mm worth of paper (cut to the same size of the battery) on top of the battery and i could still close it fine. It did buldge abit bit I have an iskin so it wont scratch it up.

well if you've get the paper in there might as well wire up the battery and slap it in the case. Becareful not to hurt yourself, and let us know how it goes.

But, I don't have a second battery! I would buy one if someone could confirm that it worked.
I really think it would. I think the charger does charge by % (or voltage) and not say a time cycle.
