Griffen iPod iTrip
I pre-ordered my iTrip from Griffen back in early July and after much delay I was informed that they were still not going to be released but that they are going to release a release date in Oct and once shipped will take at least a few weeks to get. I emailed Griffen and told them in a professional manner that I was disappointed and received this email:
Sorry you are so upset about our release of the iTrip. It is only a $35 silly little transmitter. I wouldn't let is ruin your life. We still have no release date. There are far too many variables in getting this product out other then just a simple "reach into a bucket an pull one out" type of thing. I would feel a lot better knowing that you are not stressed about the
release date of this thing. I cannot change the release date for you in any way what so ever. Perhaps a good way to alleviate the stress would be to suggest that perhaps you just cancel your order so that you will not be under so much pressure. None of us here knows for sure when it will be released. You can talk to our CEO (Jeff Pack) or to our operations manager (Van Thompson) and I am sure that they will be glad to give you a wonderful answer. They may even give you the same answer but I doubt it. All I know for sure is that no answer will be worth the effort of breath until we actually start shipping the product. There is no reason that I or anyone else can give you. There is no explanation. You will just have to accept it as a reality. It will ship once it becomes available. The absolute best that I can do for you is to pull your order and put on top of a smaller list of about 2000 people instead of the big list of 20,000 people who are waiting for the product to be released. We have orders going back as far as January 9th. I kid you not. We will start shipping in the sequence that the orders were placed. You are no where near the front of the list. Since you have taken the time to write us about this several times I will honor your request for additional information by this reply. You can always call our upper management for one of their responses if you like. In the end, you will still not get it until we start shipping it. Our number here is 615-399-7000 9-6 central M-F. For a particularly charismatic response to this issue you can try talking to our marketing rep. His name is Andrew Green. He will give you the best spin and I'm sure that he will bend over backwards to give you best service possible. But again. We have none to ship
yet so it is really a moot point. Once we get the product in stock then we plan on being able to ship them all out within several weeks. I hope this helps you with your disappointment and delay issues. Life is way to short to stress over such a silly thing like the iTrip. Give the upper management a call and perhaps they can soothe the pain.
Best regards (identity protected)
This is the definitely the worst customer service I have ever received! It's totally unbelievable! This guy really took his time to cut me down. I guess I don't need to get into though because his words really speak for themself. Since he was so rude and mentions upper management I like to this he just really hates his job and is taking it out on me hoping to get fired otherwise Grifffen must not really give a rats ### about their customers. Any similar experiences? I doubt I'm alone..

D***! You have to admit, it is a bit of creative writing...Can you imagine the # of people that write and call them on a daily basis about these things? I would send that letter back to them to the pres or CEO.
See, Griffin? That's what happens when you promise more than you can deliver. I think I'll cancel my order and wait for it to show up at the local Apple store.

whoa... That's the kind of thing that really gets under my skin. If I were you I'd be taking a little trip to the office this guy works out of and letting him know face 2 face how I feel. Additionally, I'd be putting that letter in the hands of the top person. Finally I'd make it my mission in life to bring ruin to the company and all who oppose me... MMMUUUHHAHAHAHAHHHAAAA...

Assuming your original message to them was not tongue-in-cheek, I'd say you should escalate this to a manager in customer service. If it were my company, I'd be upset that someone on my staff wrote something like this to a customer.
But, if your original message was in fact, written with some underlying humor, then I'd say, "nice job!" to the guy who responded.

wow....

Give the guy a break!
Sorry that you haven't had the iTrip yet. I've been watching carefully for user feedback before ordering one but it sounds like a wonderful solution. And yes, it is a real downer that they're still not available...
And that's my point. This sounds like a mail from a customer service guy at the absolute end of his tether. I wouldn't be surprised if after writing this he gave his manager the finger, took a dump in the CEO's coffee pot and set fire to the marketing guy's trousers, before leaving the building for ever. But then again, he probably really needs the pathetic wages his job brings in, and we should feel sympathy for the poor guy who's been forced to spout the company line to an increasingly irate stream of daily callers.
Me? I'd ask for my money back immediately and quietly (and have a sympathetic chat with the helpdesk when they take your call - if they're not monitoring then you might be able to see if this mail reflects the mood of the place). You're not getting the gadget from them anytime soon, and Griffin sounds to me like a company that may not be around for too long if even half the claims are true.
Oh, and look up "irony" in the dictionary.

"We have orders going back as far as January 9th." For the 3rd gen that wasn't even announced until April? Woah.
# 7 Re: Griffen iPod iTrip
It is pretty difficult to interpret this response without seeing what you wrote, and how many times you've been writing to complain.
If you made it appear that you had gotten emotional about the itrip shipment situation, and if you threatened to "go over his head" to get a better answer, then his response seems entirely appropriate.
Missing a planned shipping date by a couple of month is pretty standard for this industry, and there's not much that can be done about it. If you really cannot wait to get an FM transmitter... cancel your order and get a competitor's product. It is, after all, just a cheap little gizmo that mankind has lived several millenia without.
BTW, I've been in line for my itrip since July 18th. If you ordered yours before that date, you really should cancel. Yeah... that'd be best.

I actually really enjoyed this guy's response! I have a feeling that you got pretty rough with the guy and made a big stink. His point is pretty well taken though, if you detach yourself from the situation for a moment. Of course, you're just waiting for your product to arrive and sick of getting the runaround. That's bad company policy, for sure.
I'd cancel my order, sit back, and simply wait for the product to be released. Once they receive their shipments, you'll get one eventually. Other companies may come up with something more interesting in the meantime... other companies that don't hype their products before they know when they'll be available...
Cheer up, mate!

Just thought I should let everyone know that today I received a call from Griffin's CEO Jeff Pack. He was very nice and apologized for his employee's attitude and said he would be shipping me a iTrip ASAP. I look forward to receiving it and future products. I definitely recommend Griffin to everyone!

Sounds like you were just bumped to the front of the list. :D
# 11 Re: Griffen iPod iTrip
Lol you have to admit it is a great email and I would appreciate the fact that someone actually read your mail without just whacking off an auto response. He does of course have a point, it isn't worth stressing about something like the itrip. The only strange thing is the way they do not want to ever give the reason why the Trip has been delayed so long. Technical problems? Money problems? Apple problems? It would be interesting to knwo before putting down the cash.

# 12 Re: Griffen iPod iTrip
I agree that it would be good to know what is causing the delay with the new itrip.
I have assumed that it isn't a technical problem with the transmitter or software, since it should be very similar to the original itrip. Of course, it is possible that apple made some changes in the gen3 software that causes problems for itrip, but I haven't heard about it. There could also be problems with licensing or delays in FCC approval.
The new itrip case is different, as are the connectors. I suspect a few manfacturing changes were needed to deal with the new connector configuration. Those could all add significan delays if they did not go as expected.
The strange thing is that griffin didn't get going on this BEFORE the G3 pods were released in April/May. I wonder if Apple denied them access to a pre-release product? Perhaps Apple signed an exclusive aggreement with Belkin that prevent rivals from seeing the new connector configuration. It was odd that Belkin was ready with products immediately after the release... but no one else was geared up for the new 30-pin or the new remote connector.
