audio output voltage for in-car install?

Hi

Hope this forum is ok for a hardware tech question, couldn't see any others.

I am just about to go buy my first iPod 3G 20GB model with dock station etc...

My in-car deck has an aux input on the back for CD changers. I want to plug my new iPod into it. Cabling aside, I am concerned the iPod will put out either too much or too little voltage.

Anyone know how much voltage the headphone or line out sockets produce?

As an alternative, should I look at the FM adapters? Any performace difference between FM and straight cable connected?

I have called the local AppleCentre and Apple tech support direct to no avail. Help!

Thanks in advance - Liam

Dock station should provide standard line out voltage, I think ~ 0.75V. However, I use just phone out with volume setting to max when connected to my car AUX. So, do not expect any problem from this point.

You might want to check the special forum dedicated to car installation of iPod, where you can learn about different types of adapters.

Moved to 'iPod-In-Car'.
