IPod in 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII
Hey all,
I recently gave up my 2002 Volkswagen GTI 337 Edition for a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. I'm ecstatic except that the Evo doesn't have a tape player in it (which is how I used to use my IPod in the VW.)
Has anyone rigged a way for the IPod to play though the stock head unit in a Lancer or Lancer Evo? I'm afraid I'm going to have to throw down some cash on a new head unit with Aux Inputs.
Any info? Thanks in advance.

Nice car. I'm sorry I can't help you. I just wanted to congratulate you on your new car.

Thanks man. It's pretty sweet. Now I just have to throw an extra couple hundred dollars into a new head unit. Ugh. The payments are big enough as it is.

Have you thought of the DLO transpod, or maybe an iRock FM transmitters are a good way to get the ipod to play on a tapeless head unit, i am thinking about picking up the DLO for my Dakota, since my Head unit doesn't have a Tape.

I have an IRock transmitter. Sadly, every station that is able to be selected (88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7) has a radio station broadcasting on it in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area. I've never been able to get clear music playing through it, except for last Thursday and Friday when Hurricane Isabel swept through here and knocked out power to those radio stations. When there are stations broadcasting, I get a mix of your favorite band (Evanescence) with Gospel and Baptist church sermons. Sounds like crap. Grrrr.
I think I'll just have to save some money and buy a head unit with aux inputs in the back. I think there's a lot of space behind my current HU, so I'll have some room to run wires down to near the Lighter plug.

Does your current head unit have CD Changer controls? If so, you should be able to get an adapter that will convert the CD Changer input to RCA-in or AUX-in...

That's actually a good question. I'll go to one of the Evo forums and see if the head unit will support a changer. It might. If that's the case, then I'm home free and I'll be ecstatic since I won't have to throw down major $$ for a new head unit. I already threw down major $$ for the car, enough's enough!! :D

I just test drove a 2004 Lancer Sportback Ralliart yesterday. I'd be interested in knowing the outcome of this. The salesman told me any stereo shop could install an RCA in on the stock headunit.

If you need a new HU, best buy has the new Aiwa HUs for 110 and 120-they both have AUX in, and free install.
