Wondering if anyone's tried an in-car installation in a Lexus RX330, and if so, with what gear and results?

I've tested a Radio Shack cell mount and found it satisfactory to the extent that it grips and mounts to the far left or right air vents, but unsatisfactory (and ultimately not worth keeping) because it won't mount to a central air vent where a solid bump would land it in my lap, rather than bushes or the road outside.

Anyone try goosenecks, et cetera? The ProClip looks like a viable but radically overpriced option, and one I wouldn't consider unless it was, say, close to Radio Shack's $19.99 for comparable plastics. :-)
