Volkswagon, Ipod Holder

has anyone seen this commerical, and do they have one (holder that is)?

I have a VW and went in yesterday to the parts dept, and asked for one and they had never heard of a holder for the VW, beatle or anything....they barely knew of the promotion(ipod with new beatle)

I thought i read on this board that someone bought one, just wanted to see if was exclusive to the new beatle's...and how it works.

thanks.

It's the Belkin TuneDok

The page for the TuneDok is down now, but keep an eye on Belkin's iPod Accessories page... it'll show up again real soon.

I really need a car holder, and I'd love to get one that was actually designed specifically for the iPod. So, has anybody used the Belkin TuneDok yet? I wonder what it's like in the car, and if it works well? Any New Beetle owners who can share their experiences? Thanks!

What would you like to know?

It's really a simple holder. It's just a molded plastic tray with a opening in the bottom for the dock port and a suction cup in the back to hold the ipod in. It doesn't like cases of any kind as it tends to be very hard to put the ipod in teh holder with them and suction cup will not stick to hold it in. The Zip case may work here.

The holder is swivel mounted to a piece that looks like a screw that screws in the cupholder part itself. Suprisingly this is a solid setup that doesn't move after you set it where you want it. The cup part itself seems to be at home in regular round cupholders reather than odd sized adjustible ones (good reason they used it for the Beetle). I have been using it in my Jetta but I have teh center console with the cupholder and found that it does fine in there.

Hope this helps.

That's great info, thanks! When the car holder was still up on Belkin's site, they showed two different cups, one of them with a rim that looked like it was made for the Jetta cup holder (the spring loaded, clamp kind).

I use an cell phone holder from Radio Shack. It works great and doesn't take up a cup holder. I also use the Belkin Auto Kit to supply power to my iPod and deliver signal to my cassette adapter. It works great.

I use the Arkon Vent Mount as well -

I was a little skeptical of it when I got my Belkin auto-adapter since it plugs into the bottom of the Ipod, like the normal cord. The wide plug fits PERFECTLY. It's almost as if this Vent Mount was made specifically for the IPod.

I don't know about the rest of you but that Belkin Beetle Cup-Holder-Mount thing-a-ma-jigger is not only a waste of money, but the cupholders in my 2003 Evo aren't in a prime location for controlling the Ipod anyway. I'd rather have it up on the mount where I can actually reach it, read it, and control it effectively without taking my eyes off the road for too long.
