Ipod in a TransAM?
I have been reading the forums and they say the best way to go is to install your ipod in the car with the ipod dock, rather getting an FM broadcaster. I have a 1 cd changer that is in the front of my dashboard (the kind you just push the cd in and it plays) And i have no cassette player. I don't know much about cars at all. All i know is i have a monsoon player. Do i need to get a new player, (pioneer or sony) and what do i have to do. Keep in mind, I don't know much about cars so try to keep it simple. Thanks.

Well there are "FM Modulator" Kits that will work with your existing stereo to give you a clean signal. Otherwise you should get a new stereo that allows Line-in from a mini-jack.

What year is your car? If the stock stereo is relatively new, it probably has CD changer controls. If so, you can get an adapter that connects to the CD changer connector and gives you RCA inputs. Something like this:

This will give you better sound than an FM modulator and won't cost as much as a new stereo. If you search the forums here you should be able to find other places that sell these too. Hope this helps,

Thanks so much. I checked that site for a while and couldn't find the aux. LOL. But i don't know what to do with that. If someoen cna give me a link of some kind. Or just somewhat explain. Do i have to take off the dash board. I told you, i don't know anything about this. From what I read, I just disconnect the old wire, connect the new one with the split, then connect my ipod aux base thing to it and it works?

By the way, i have a firebird transam, i believe 2002. I know it was the last year it was made.

If the 2002 is anything like the '95, you don't need to take your dashboard off. There's a plastic trim piece around the stereo that you can remove by prying it outward with a screwdriver. Just make sure you wrap a cloth around the end of the screwdriver so it doesn't scratch anything. After that, remove the three screws holding the stereo in and slide it out of the dash. The AUX adapter should just plug right into the unit at the back where a CD changer would go. Then all you need is cable with a headphone jack at one end and RCA connectors at the other. You can get these anywhere; Radio Shack, Walmart, etc.
You can plug the 3.5mm end of the cable into the iPod's headphone jack, but it might not sound quite as good as using a line-out. If you can find a spot to mount the iPod dock in the car, its line-out will work nicely. (If you mount the dock in your car, let me know where you put it.. I couldn't find a good spot.) However, many people get an adapter like this (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=T6715LL/A) to provide a line-out and to charge the iPod at the same time. Good luck,
