Shuffle Shuffle Shuffle
This may have been posted before, but I really can't tell because the insane orange layout is like nuclear dayglow on my TV monitor.
That being said, I think the ipod could really use a shuffle button. Almost every digital based media player has one. It is hard to come from the CD player age, not that that is where I began, and not have to abilty to quickly change between shuffling and non-shuffling.
I understand the idea of the playlist, and that with compressed media files and file systems, shuffling can take on a whole new meaning in its variations. However, I think keeping with standard interfaces is keen to helping a person transition to a new medium.
If not a physical button, maybe a code to be set by pressing or holding already existing buttons.
If I am wholly negligent in discovering such an advertised option; someone please give me a virtual slap and a point in the right direction.

Yeah, that's so EASY. Just go down 8 menus, turn left, turn around, 3 menus up, 4 to the left, and you can turn shuffle off! Much easier than the button!

I second the need for a Shuffle on/off button, or at least a combination of button presses.

Wow...this is exactly what I want. A shuffle bound button is really the only feature I really want added to the ipod. White not a huge pain in the ###, I switch between listening to random songs and listening to full albums quite a bit and I always have to menu to the top, go to settings and set the shuffle on or off.

All it really needs is another 2-button hold combination.
Let's see...
Menu+Play = Reset
Left+Right = Disk Mode
How about Right+Play = Cycle Shuffle Modes?
What for Left+Menu? Hmm... How about "Play Album"? Let me explain. I frequently am shuffling through a genre or my entire collection, and come across a single that makes me want to listen to the whole album. It'd be nice to have a button combo to get into that album automatically.
I think adding buttons is a bad idea. Simplicity is the iPod's best attribute.

Personally, I'd like Left-Menu to be "Jump me back to the top of the first menu, and initialize all of the other menus to select the first item". This would save the classic back-back-back-back-back-scroll that people have to do now.

button combination would be cool. Why would apple even put one of the most important features under the "settings" section?? How about holding the center "enter" button down to switch between repeat 1, repeat all, shuffle. When you hold down the enter button it will scroll through each option at 1 second intervals until you let go to select the desired function??
