My 10 requests for iPod improvement...
Hi,
After now a few days of TNG iPod use (with the 2.0.1 firmware), here are my complaints about the device and the points I'd like Apple improve for the next firmware update (if they make a new one !!!).
1. Add an option to enable or disable the EU volume limitation.
2. Let backlight turned on as long as I browse the iPod.
3. Make available the "Shuffle" option at the top of the menus.
4. Make it possible to scroll to the left or right the long names of songs, albums or artists.
5. Make it possible to manage your playlists on the iPod (add/remove a song in an existing playlist).
6. Don't delete the On-the-go playlist when the iPod is connected to the computer.
7. Make it possible to browse the iPod when it is connected to the computer.
8. Have the date/time info displayed while playing (can be useful when you don't have a watch).
9. Add more format support (such as MPC, OGG, WMA, ...)
10. Replace the remote control with a model which is not as badly designed as the default one (had to glue the cable on plug side !!!) - and why not make it thinner since it is huge for only 5 buttons... have a look at Sony's MD remote control (and they have an LCD screen).
That is all for the moment... this is what I would like Apple to work on, after a week of iPod use.
Cheers,
Sun.

Just a couple of thoughts:
The EU volume limitation, if I understand it correctly, is in place because of EU restrictions on audio device volume limits. Putting an option on the device for people to simply ignore that restriction would amount to a blatant circumvention of the EU guidelines, would it not? I doubt Apple has the authority to do such a thing...
And as for having the backlight remain on while you're browsing, just set the Backlight Timer setting ? that's exactly what it's there for.
Other than those, I do think your suggestions are reasonable.

Indeed. I more appropriate wish should be placed in the "EU over-regulation" wishlist instead of the IPOD. :)

Several good ideas, especially like:
3. Make available the "Shuffle" option at the top of the menus. Hadn't thought of it, but I usually want shuffle for artists/playlists and in order for albums, I'd like "Shuffle" as a top level menu choice.
I'd add a removeable cover or much more durable 'face,' the screen is way too easy to scratch. Mine scratched on a drop of about 2 inches onto my keyboard. Got it out with Brasso and now use plastic PDA protector sheets - wouldn't go without ever again.

I would also like to be able to view song technical data (bitrate, playcount, etc.); maybe have this as an additional screen when flipping through with the center button after ratings.
