Multiple "backlight" settings.

I wish the backlight could have two settings based on where it was plugged into a power source or not. When it iso n battery, I don't want the backlight to come on. If it is plugged into a power source, then I want the backlight to come on.

I was thinking the same thing.my cd walkman (sony de-j197), when on the road, you press the light button and it stays on for a few seconds. But once it's plugged into AC, it stays permanently on. It would be nice to see similar on the iPod.
What would also be nice is ability to adjust the backlight brightness. I could live with turning it down a little to save battery life.
