The shuffle is good, but what about being able to shuffle by artist?

Hmm. What would be the point? Shuffling by album essentially gives you exactly the same results ? a random album by a random artist each time. The only thing shuffle-by-artist would offer beyond that is a random set of albums... kinda specific, no?ephraim at 2007-11-15 14:50:56 >

I've noticed that shuffle is pretty good, but the longer you use it, it starts to repeat songs, and ignore a good deal of the library. Anyone else noticed this or know how to get it to expand it's selections?rt297 at 2007-11-15 14:52:56 >

It does shuffle by artist already. If your iPod is set to shuffle by song, and you browse to the artist you want to hear, then hit play while the artist is highlighted (without going to the list of his/her songs)... it shuffles the songs on that list as it plays them.
At least, on my 3G|30G it does.

Yep, I'm interested in playlists too. Did anyone find out if you can shuffle playlists? That would be cool. I could put my kids music in a playlist and isolate it from mine, but still play random songs.rt297 at 2007-11-15 15:00:01 >

Oh. Okay.The terminology wasn't really clear: "shuffle-by-artist" implies analogy to "shuffle-by-album"; the latter picks a random album and plays it, so one would assume the former would pick a random artist and play it.
But I understand now. :)

I don't think thinks it's complicating stuff, but that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. :)
Personally, I quite enjoy being able to just select Foo Fighters or whatever and then be able to listen randomly to any songs off any of their albums.
BTW, I've only had my Ipod a couple of weeks and am well pleased with it. Can't believe I went this long without owning one!
