Mono

I would like an option to put the Ipod into mono output mode.
I listen to my Ipod using only the left ear piece. When I am home I use two speakers, so reencoding to mono would spoil my listening besides I have 200 Gigs of MP3. This should be an easy to do software feature.

Solution: Get a set of mono headphones, or a stereo-to-mono converter jack.

Sigh, thats a gludge work around. Why not do it right in the first place?
I found one set of headphones with a mono switch years ago but they are long since dead.
The only adaptor I have ever found is an all metal one from radio shack and the combined length of adaptor and headphone is always catching on something and the cheap but strong metal adaptor then tears through an expensive device.
I have had this problem for years. The best solution has always been a switch on the device, but I have only ever found a switch on some pocket FM radios.

Well, you're really going to have to begin to accept the fact that people generally don't ever listen to anything in mono anymore, so this is not a "feature" that will ever be added to a new device like the iPod. Simply a waste of code as far as they're concerned, I'm sure.

I'd look around a bit more for a stereo->mono converter; I've got a plastic inline converter right here that's maybe an inch long and not much wider than the stereo minijack plug on the iPod's headphones. I'm sure you could find something similar.

Sony makes dj headphone with mono switch, and detachable earpiece, so you can take one ear off completely.

So, why do you listen in mono with one ear? I'm curious.

I am deaf in my left ear, this is actually faily common, like 1 in 100 ppl are one ear deaf. Having mono is very helpful option. One thing i have don in the past in cut the head phone cable and solder the left and right channels together with two little resistors then to the right ear plug, :) this works well, but depending on the volume output level, you may have to turn it up a bit more.

The other option is to rip your mp3 in mono mode or convered them, the take a lot less space this way , get more songs on your ipod.

right--ww--/

Next time, you can use the <CODE></CODE> tags, which allow monospace text with extra spaces:
