mixing tracks

I recently read an article about the Ipod in the New York Post, which mentioned a weekly party in NYC where 2 iPods are used to create a "mixing console". It said that there is a rumor that Apple is working on either software on a new version which allows tracks (MP3 or AAC) to be mixed on an iPod. Has anyone heard of this? Pls. advise; thanks.

I can't really imagine why that would be useful. It's one thing (and a great thing at that) to take the outputs from two iPods into a mixer, replacing (or complementing) a set of turntables. But why you'd want to do any actual mixing on the iPod itself is beyond me. How on earth would one manage that with the iPod's interface?

No; the idea is that the user can play back & listen to tracks that are crossfaded and mixed together (possibly with beat-matching). What I think they're getting at is that you could crossfade & mix together tracks that you have in the playlist, rather than having an annoying break between tracks when you're listening.

Oh, well that's not exactly a new feature request; we've been complaining to Apple about seamless track playback since the first iPod came out.

wouldn't be nice to have a simple pitch control (+/-8) and nudge (forward and backward) that way we could use the ipod for Djing with.

For any developers reading this, the closest thing to a decent audio file dj instrument is Native Instruments "Traktor"
