Bigger Hard Drive!

I own a new 30Gb iPod and am already thinking I'll fill it up in about a month once I finish ripping my CD collection.

One of my mates is harping on about the MStation, see the link if you've not seen one yet.

Tech Watch Website (http://www.techwatch.com.au/reviews/hardware/mstation_portable/)

He can expand using a laptop HDD to 180Gb!! About the only good thing about it as it looks naff and the interface is not as slick as the iPod.

Anyway, my wish is that the next Gen's of iPod have 60Gb or more storage. Hope this is in the pipeline!

yeah, but look how huge that mp3 player is in the model's hands.. It uses a 2.1" laptop drive...

Our ipods use physically smaller drives, and I love them dearly <3 <3

What would be useful, are stores that sell the 1.8" drives, and adaptors..

which would bring the need for applications to format the drives for use with ipods!

This opinion is totally subjective, but I think that the "MStation" is very ugly and large, not able to be put into a pocket easily. Sure, the iPods may have comparitavely small hard disks, but I would rather have smaller (both senses) than bulkier and more storage.

Moreover, the Creative Nomad (non-zen model) uses a notebook HD as well, and it's as large as a CD player.

There are some promising new storage possibilities coming up, like nanodrives, nanotube storage, which can store up to 1 terrabit per square cm of media(about 125 GB), so I've read in Scientific American magazine, and would be more durable than the clumsy magnetic platters of the hard disk. With these new storage technologies, it may be possible to make HD players that are even smaller than the iPod.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the MStation as it is to bulky and looks ugly. Like I said, it's not to nice to use either.

The iPod rules and nothing comes close to it's looks, ease of use and potential future applications as well as the current extras.

I hope that there will be a Hard drive or storage media in the future that can increase the storage capacity to 60gb+ so the iPod can use it on the next Gen models.

We alway's want more storage!! To think when I had a 2Gb Hard Drive years ago I thought I would never fill it up!

My magic eight ball tells me that hard drives will be larger in the future. But hey, it's not always accurate...

And why do you want to have every disk you own on hand. If you're like me, 2/3's of what I own, I never listen to, and probably never will again. I'm just too much a pack rat to throw it away. I swear I have 40 xmas cd's, and I never listen to xmas music! I think the're more status in the big drive reguest than need. Carry your laptop with a couple of 200 gig drives if you really need all that music. You'll need a laptop os to find your music when you want to play it!

I hardly ever transfer songs, so i mostly always listen to the same songs over and over. And i'm too lazy to download more and burn them to disc(currently just own a mp3/cd player).

Here I was hoping Apple would decrease the hard drive size for the next generation... :)

120GB can be sufficient. Do not forget that the next generation will be able to play movies so far.
