Feature Request -- Control iPod in Dock
I don't know if you can do this now, but it would be nice to be able to control your iPod whilst it is plugged into the dock through the firewire connection to your computer.
Meaning, if on a mac, it would be nice to use iTunes to play music thru the sound out port on the dock.
I have my dock sound-outing to a henry kloss radio, and right now I have to unplug it and plug it into my mac to play through iTunes. Kind of a hassle.
Do you think this will be possible through software (or is it possible now through methods I am unaware of)?

I don't know why it couldn't be done if Apple wanted to program it to. I do question how many people would have any use for this and whether the small who would do it would justify the resources to develop this feature. Most people, including myself, would just play mp3's through our computer if we're going to be using the computer.

I like using the iTunes interface better than scrolling through the iPod.
In other words, it would be nice if the sound out on the dock acted as a sound out when you connected the dock to a computer via firewire. Even if there wasn't an iPod in the dock.
One less plugging/unplugging to have to go through.

I dont think this would be possible for the following reasons:
1. Firewire and USB are both digital technologies... you can's send an analogue audio signal down them
2. If you were to send the signal digitally, then the iPod would need to be able to play the incoming sound in real time while mounted... which seems unlikely becaust the iPod doesn't do ANYTHING while mounted... but then again maybe this could be done with a firmware update...
