"Report this post to moderator" function questions
The text that comes up says that it's only to be used for abusive, inappropriate, etc. posts. I would like to be able to use this feature to alert moderators to threads that should be moved and threads that duplicate existing threads that should be locked. This would allow users to draw mods attention to a thread without having to use email.
Would this be an appropriate use of this function, so long as a brief explanation, like "please move to Forum Feedback" was included in the comments section?

Nah I think I would just leave it go and eventually they will see that it shouldn't be there. But then again if they had a couple more mods...;) :D

Well, this way the users would be able to help keep the boards clean by alerting mods to things that should be closed or moved. With not many mods, I would think that they don't want to spend their time constantly patrolling for stuff that's in the wrong place, and we could save them time by pointing it out.
But, of course, I will bow to the will of the mods, which is why I posted a query to get feedback from them as to whether they thought this was an appropriate use of that function, or whether they want us to continue to use email to contact the mods for these kinds of suggestions.

I think it's an appropriate use of the function, but just so you know, the way it works is it sends an email out to every moderator.

I thought the mod's have a one-touch button that will scan and wipe out all the bad words.... right?!?!

We had our hands full on the old forums, mainly down to newbies not reading the forum guidelines and tips before they posted a duplicate question which had been posted a few messages down the page.

How about a new section for the newbies thou... it would collect all the questions from newbies...!!

We constantly review the FAQ's (http://www.ipodlounge.com/faqs.php) and add any new ones we think may be helpful.
A newbie section would have to be a mirror of the existing forum, otherwise you would get a mess of postings like there is over on Apple iPod Discussions.
That is even harder to moderate and find info.
The new forum is set up along the lines of the old one, which has been running fine since its inception (xsorbit flameouts excepted!)
