Comfort of Senn PX100 vs. PX200?

My first iPod is on order right now (20GB model) and I've been trying to research a nice pair of headphones to replace my Koss KSC-50 pair. I'm generally happy with the set, but I'm not terribly fond of the ear clip form.

I would like some headphones that were a bit more noise cancelling (less leaking would be nice as well). One of my main concerns, though, is the heat of the headphones.

I plan on using my headphones for hours at a time while programming and such at work, so comfort is very important. Do the PX200's get too hot after extended use because they're closed? Do the PX100s leak too much? Or do they not cancel out much surrounding noise?

How do both compare to the KSC-50s (or KSC-35s)? Closed would be nice for the noise cancellation, but I'm really concerned about the warmth of the ears over time.

I have both pairs, and I prefer the PX200's. They both have great sound, but the 200's are fuller and have a better soundstage because they are closed. Both are very comfortable, but the 200's seem more secure and sit closer to the ear. Because they are closed, they fit tighter and have leather like padding that could get warm after long periods. The 100's get air around them and might be more comfortable for some over long periods. My daughter prefers the 100's for this reason, but the sound is a little thinner.
BTW, you can get them at www.ecost.com for $34.00 shipped. That is not an advertised price, you have to start check out to get the discount. Mine arrived in 3 days. Really fast service.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still not sure what to do though. Do the 100's leak sound considerably?

The reason I'm concerned about the heat build-up is because of a pair of headphones I bought before the KSC-50's ... they were Philips HP550 and the sound was far inferior to the Koss, but more importantly, my ears would literally start sweating after about an hour and a half.

The 100's leak about the same as any other open phone like the ones that normally come with portable CD players. The 200's are more comfortable for me, but that's just me, and I don't sweat much.

Mm - I think you're making me lean towards the 200 now ...

I would like them to be a little more noise cancelling w/ less leaking ... and I'm betting they're not nearly as hot as my Philips HP550s.

With the link you supplied, $35 isn't going to break the bank either. Thanks for the advice :D

The 200's are very quiet and comfy. BTW, they only go on one way because of the way the earpieces swivel to fold up. You will see what I mean when you get them. The case is cool to, and the phones have a neat high techy look, kind of like a Geiger painting.

I actually went the other way, and chose the 100's. I think it has everything to do with the fit on your head, because oddly enough the headband on the 200's is a fraction of an inch shorter than the other. It probably makes no difference for most people, but what can I say, I've got a big head.

I've heard from posts in other places, though, that the sound on the 200's can differ quite a bit, depending on the fit. If they don't fit exactly right over your ears, apparently they don't sound as good.

I wear mine at work. I've never been one to blast the sound, so I can't really say how much they leak to your neighbors, but I find that the slightly "ligher" fit over my head makes wearing them all day long much more comfortable.

Either way, I don't think you lose. Both are great, and both have the cool fold-up case.

Incidentally, if you're looking for noise cancellation and can shell out a few more bucks, you may want to consider the 250's-- from what I understand, they're the same as the 200's, but with noise cancellation built in.

Good luck.

Thanks for the extra opinion. Apparently the site that had the 200s for $34 was going to charge me tax for Tennessee and some other fee and the total would've been around $42 ... so I ended up ordering the 100s after all (kind of on impulse).

If I like the 100s, maybe I'll make the jump to the 250s after a time.

Thanks to the both of you.

I have a pair of Koss PortaPros and was wondering how the PX200's compare to them. Any thoughts? How light are the PX200's?

Hello - forgot about this topic. I've been using my 100s for about 2 months now and they've been great. Like I said, I'm not much of an audiophile, but the sound is excellent for me and they are probably the most comfortable headphones I've ever had.

They're also great for folding up and taking while traveling (though I do have to turn up my iPod pretty loud to drown out the noise of the plane ... which makes me a bit worried about damaging my ear drums).

Sorry - no experience with the PortaPros or 200s, but thought I should share my experiences so far with the 100s ... I wholeheartedly recommend them.
