Sony MDR-D66SL or Audio-Technica ATH-A500?
I need to retire my MDR-EX70LP earbuds. I'm simply getting sick of stuff going in and out of my ear all the time, and I want something closed and comfortable to put on my head. Additionally, the right earphone is dying... :(
I'm looking at the following:
Sony MDR-D66SL Eggo Headphones

or
Audio-Technica ATH-A500
http://www.audiocubes.com/product_info.php?cPath=23_36&products_id=319
My criteria are: Good highs, mids, and lows [not overly bassy], good construction [I will commute with these, after all], closed-air [I commute with other people, and would prefer they hear little of what I'm playing, if any], and decent noise-cancellation. The mesh cord of the ATH is very attractive, too...
Also, will my 3G iPod be able to drive these without an external amp?
Thanks!

I've used Sennheiser HD-202s and they are definitely not what I'm looking for. I'm not looking for substantially exaggerated bass. The HD-202s also don't handle highs very well at all. Were those active-noise-cancelling Sony headphones? If so, that makes the headphones almost triple in cost of similar-quality-sounding 'phones.

Size/weight isn't a HUGE deal. The only thing I'm worried about is the impedance -- 64ohms? Will I be able to pull this off on an iPod without an amp?
