portable ear/head phones with fm tuner?
Hi,
I'm new here and a new comer to the wonderous world of portable music... tho have been a loooong mac user. Just recently got an iTrip to go with my iPod... suprisingly, after trying to get it to work, I found a station in the Bay Area that isn't used!
I was wondering if any of you know of a good, small, VERY portable set of phones (preferably earphones but if headphones want them not too big) that have a built-in FM tuner.
Hope no one gives me too much of a hard time coz i'm making my life complicated. But i'm not too much of an audiophile to want great phones... just decent is fine since I usually blast away with my stereo system for music and rarely on earphones. But on those occassions where i'm using my iPod other than for the car, I'd like the whole wireless thing going since I already have an iTrip anyways.
I've been using the standard Apple phones with the remote but it's just too annoying to have it travel to the inside back of my shirt and out so it won't look too conspicuous or messy. Also annoying is having to tie the wires just the right amount so nothing dangles too much. (thought of getting retractable phones but want iTrip to stay permanent on the iPod)
So since the iTrip is broadcasting sound good enough, and iPods arent going bluetooth anytime soon, that was the best wireless alternative I could think of. Hope anyone knows where I can get earphones like this. I was thinking the fm tuner be built near the ear pieces... I know I saw something like this out years ago but can't find anything on the net.
Thanks for any advice you can throw at me!:D

More than a year since this post, and no-one replied.
My turn to ask the same question:
## Does anyone know of a VERY portable set of headphones with built-in FM tuner/receiver?
Those I could find are rather bulky, or simply not available in the UK:
- Sony SRF-HM03V S2 Sports Walkman (very cool, but not very portable and not available in the UK)
- Sony Walkman SRF-HM33 (not available in the UK)
The only non-revolting offer seems to be:
- Sony SRF-MQ11
But it still is rather big and ugly...
Anyone knows of anything nice?

I knew I saw something like that recently. Radio Shack makes an AM/FM headset with an audio input, so you can use them as headphones as well. $40.

Not exactly what I call portable though.
I can't see myself walking on the street with that on my head...
However, on the same website, I now saw the Sony?? S2 Sports? Street Style? Walkman?? AM/FM Stereo Headset Radio

But guess what: not available in the UK... :-(

I've now also found the Phillips SBC-HR160

I don't really like the look though, and it's rather basic...
When I see what you guys can get in the US, i'm really annoyed with what we get here in the UK...

Isn't what jparris1 posted exactly what you're looking for?

It is close to what I'd want, however the reviews for this item are almost unanimously bad. Moreover, I'm more searching for something slightly more resistant, with a round-the-neck hard support for example. I forgot to mention that when I said VERY portable, I still was talking about something with acceptable sound quality, and for that, my experience says that headphones are better than earphones.
By the look of things, the closest thing to what I actually wish is the Sony SRF-HM03V, but is not available in the UK, and reviews say it is quite huge and heavy.
I guess with the low price for the FMXtra eraphones jparris1 posted, I could give it a go and see if I like it...

Ah, ok. I really think this is going to be a poor solution, though. FM modulators really leave a lot to be desired... you're going to be sacrificing a ton of quality just to eliminate a 5' cord.

Yeah, they are pretty hideous, aren't they? ;)
