I went into my local music instrument store to find out if they could get them - they could, but at a cost of ?99!!(and that from the Shure importer, HW International (http://www.hwinternational.co.uk/index.htm))
If you are serious about getting the Shures then check the prices of them on the 'net.
$80 is a price I have seen mentioned which converts to a touch over ?50!!!
B-I-G difference.........

DJMart has them online for $80.00--don't know if they ship to the UK though.
**edit: looks like they do ship to the UK--shipping in U.S. is five dollars, it might not be any higher to ship to the UK, according to their website:

$100 bucks though! Are they really so much better than the apple phones?
It is a fair bit of cash just for earphones to be fair. Shame i can't test them first isn't it

They are much, much better than the apple buds. You can get them at DJmart for $80.00, plus $5.00 shipping--they ship worldwide. These are my favorite portable earphones for less than $100.00...Well worth it in my opinion.

I paid 80$ on eBay, this was without testing, and they were well worth it for me also.

If ordering from the USA, it's probably safest to get them from www.headphone.com. Note that for some US-based vendors, they will now charge you VAT... Many US vendors haven't woken up to it (or have dismissed it as a plan by pinko Euros to invade American business), I don't think Headroom have registered yet. Then you get stung for import duty courtesy of HM Customs. If you haven't paid VAT on the US side you will be required to pay VAT.
Of course, a good way to get around it is to have a friend in the US buy the phones, and ship them to you marked as 'Gift' and declared at about $40. This way you avoid all charges. But I never said that.
I ordered the E5c's from Turnkey in Charing X Road but I am paying absolutely top dollar (or pound, as the case may be). The E2C's they didn't know about at the but going by the US/Turnkey price discrepancy it will probably be about the same (a hundred).

DJmart is a top vendor--I would whole heartedly recommend them, and you can expect to pay $85.00 with shipping included--at least that's what it was for me; I bought mine about a month ago.

I stumbled across this link an audiophile website:
http://www.handheldaudio.co.uk/
If you go to the Shure link here, click ear accessories, they had the E2's for 67.20 in U.K. currency, don't know what the U.S. equivalent is...

# 12 Re: shure ec2s in uk

# 13 Re: shure ec2s in uk
Ouch!!
Man, that's ridiculous...

# 15 Re: shure ec2s in uk
Yep, don't blame you. I posted a link to a UK website above--don't know if that helps or not.

yeah I saw that thanks
works out bout ?80
# 17 Re: shure ec2s in uk
E888s are better anyway!
Pioneer's $29 SE-CL30 Encapsulated Earphones may represent a better, cheaper option than the EX51/70/71 for those who need the isolation afforded by in the ear canal earphones. They have a slightly broader frequency response 5-23,000 Hz and use 10-mm drivers rather than 8- or 9-. They also come in black or white.
Perhaps a Shure user would post the E-2 specs here?
# 18 Re: shure ec2s in uk
Jacko how can you say the E888's are better not even having tried the Shures??
It really depends on what you want them for, and what your own personal listening experience is with them. I checked out some of the audiophile forums, and there is quite a bit of debate over what the best earphone is, not unexpectedly. Although the specs are helpful, they don't necessarily insure one earphone is better sounding than another--there are so many variables, including impedance, sensitivity and fit--you can't just look at the size of the drivers and frequency responses; there's more to it than that.
The gold E888's (the silver E888's for don't seem to do quite as well) have a tremendous fan base. I've never listened to them, so I can't compare them to the Shure's. From what I've read, if you prefer a bud that doesn't sit in the ear canal, and isolation is not an issue, these are a great way to go. They represent a great value in setttings where you're in a relatively quiet environment, and where you don't have to worry about sound leakage. Some people do complain with issues of comfort.
The Shure's also have a tremendous fan base. They are IMHO the best pair of isolating earphones for activity, and best pair of in the ear canal ear phones for less than $100.00. They are perfect for the gym..There are also people who have issues with comfort with these, although with 6 different earbud sizes to chose from, most people seem to be able to find a good, comfortable fit.
And I don't have all the specs on the Shure's, but impedance is 16 Ohm, sensitivity is 105 dB/mw.

# 19 Re: shure ec2s in uk
Throwaway remark, DMT.
I don't own Shures, and have only listened to a pair for five minutes or so - simply not long enough to reach a real judgement.
BUT
I do think that I'm beginning to believe that the bigger drivers of the best non 'in the ear canal' type of earbud will always sound better than 9-mm drivers, although in some situations an in-the-canal design will obviously offer compelling advantages. I'm quite happy to believe that the Shure or Ety will sound better than an EX70, even if the specs are near identical, but I think that any 9-mm driver is going to have problems aping the sound and quality of the 888's 16-mm driver and huge bio cellulose diaphragm
It would be interesting to know the frequency response range of the Shure, since its impedence and sensitivity is the same as that for the $29 Pioneer earbud!
# 20 Re: shure ec2s in uk
Frequency response is a difficult thing to gauge, even from specs, because the seal of the in the ear type of buds is absolutely critical--and it will vary from user to user, from earbud to earbud, depending on anatomy...Of the eustachian tube, that is..
An open earphone, like the E888's, are going to probably be more 'standard' with regard to frequency among users, but even these will have variances from user to user, depending on fit...
dmt1 at 2007-11-15 15:47:31 >

# 21 Re: shure ec2s in uk
The spec figure will still, however, indicate the range which the headphone is capable of producing, given the perfect anatomy!
# 22 Re: shure ec2s in uk
Jacko,
With regards to the E888's how big is the actually 'bud' in comparison to the Apple 'phone?
It looks almost the same size in photos. The reason I ask is that no matter what I do with the Apple 'phone I cannot get a decent sound from them and a decent fit.
Because of the shape of my ear (blame my parents) the Apple 'phones sit in such a way that the 'driver port' is actually directing the sound at the concha - the shape of my tragus and anti-tragus actually dictate the way the Apple 'phones lie in my ear. So the result is a muffled output from most 'bud' type 'phones. I just cannot get the Apple phones to sit in my ear and direct the sound properly.
So anything that is remotely the same size and shape as the Apple 'phones is really no good for me.
(I would attach an image of my ear but you may think Clindst is posting porn again ;))
So my option is either a headphone or an in-ear style.
As I find headphones uncomfortable over a long period of time, and frankly too "sk8terboi" for my advanced years I prefer the in-ear 'phones.
And so I like the EX70/71 as much as you hate them, but I would like to try the Shure E2's out. I can't stretch to the Ety's but the ?/$80 for the Shure's is more within reach.

Bob,
Thank you for not sharing those pictures of your ears. Since going to the in the ear canal earphones, and seeing some of the stuff that comes out of there, I have come to the conclusion that the inner ear is a very disturbing place, bordering on obscence, and I now consider it part of my privates. Definitely for mature audiences only.
And Jacko, were you insinuating that perhaps my anatomy is less than perfect? You better quit talking to my wife mister...:D

Use a bit of common sense !!!!
Look for the UK distributor on the Shure website. Unfortunately they will not sell them to you direct but they will tell you a retail outlet near you who will order them for you from the UK distributor if they do not have them in stock.

penbat,
If you check the second post in this thread you will see I mention "I went into my local music instrument store to find out if they could get them - they could, but at a cost of ?99!!(and that from the Shure importer, HW International)"
Calling for common sense is not needed if you read the whole thread!!!
