Etymotics. Shure's have no high-end IMO. I sent the Shures back, and eventually wound up with the Ety-4P's. The ER-6's sound better than the Shures, but the Shures seem a bit more durable.

If you buy them from http://www.headphone.com you can return them within 30 days, that's how I settled on my phones. Also, for more headphone info than you will ever want, try http://www.head-fi.org search for Shure E-2, you will find my review there as well.

good luck

I had the ER-6 for a week before returing them and upgrading to the ER-4P. I also recently bought the Shure E2. The ER-6 sound a little shrill off my Ipod which makes them fatiguing at mid-high volume. They also don't sound good at lower volumes. The ER-4 solve all these issues but aren't good to listen to on the move. I like the E2 the best in terms of fit and they sound more "agreeable" to me than the ER-6. However the ER-6 with foams is perfectly good on the move. If you are primarily stationary while listening the ER-4 sounds the best by a good margin.

The Etymotics have a more neutral sound in comparison to the Shure E2c, at least that's how they sound to my ears. I tried both and opted for the Ety's. I would have liked the ER4's but I wasn't ready to shell out the extra cash.

One word of advice regarding the ER6. For the first couple of weeks I was using them with the silicone tips they came with. They kept getting out of position and I ended up fiddling with them more than I would have liked to. Either my ear canals are too narrow for the tip to get in there, or I don't know how to put them in correctly. This subject has been beaten to death in this forum, search for it if you are interested. Then I switched to the foam tips and voila! no problems at all! The sound isolation and bass isn't at the same level as when you do get a good fit with the silicone tips, but it is definitely good enough and trouble free.
