The new iPod headphones are good!
They migth not fit very well but the sound quality is really high end! Even though the new one has some bugs I'm loving it more and more every day.

Great that you're satisfied with the sound quality! It is intersting, many audiophiles and avid iPod listeners (like myself) find the Apple earphones fairly low end, but if you are happy thats great.
# 2 Re: The new iPod headphones are good!
The mid range of the iPod headphones sound good to me, but I hear wildly distorted bass. Had to immediately switch over to some Sony EX70/71's... ahh much better.

I also think that the included headphones sound nice. Well, for the five seconds or so that they stay in your ear before popping out. ;)
# 4 Re: The new iPod headphones are good!
I wondered about the the headphone/remote connection. How is the headphone connected? Can you still use the remote while using 3rd party headphones? Thanks.

I don't know if this has been been changed on the newer ipods, but the remote fits into the ipod, and the headphones fit into the remote--and it will work with any set of earbuds (I use my sony EX70's with mine--they're perfect for this as they come with a short cord that can either be used with the remote, or with the included cord extension, if I don't want to use the remote (although I prefer the remote...).

Yep, the connector on the iPod's earbuds is identical to any 3rd party headphones with a 1/8 inch stereo mini.

I thought they were great quality as well, but they hurt my ears because they were too big, so I ended up simply using some Sony wrap-around headphones.
Even though they're not as good in terms of quality, they're a lot more comfortable.
# 8 Re: The new iPod headphones are good!
I think the Apple earbuds fit very nicely in the ear, but my sony buds definitely has better sound, so i use my sonys.
# 9 Re: The new iPod headphones are good!
They're OK for bundled phones. A little tinny but the response isn't that bad. Better than the Sony bundled POS.

Excuse me while I fall off my chair laughing :p

The bundeled clip ons with the Sony Clie (expensive!) are great; much better than the Apple earbuds IMHO. I use those primarily.

Hmm, I haven't even tried my apple earphones, they are still all wrapped up. Right now I'm using Sony headphones, the sound quality is really good, although I don't have anything to compare them to.
I'm thinking of buying the Apple headphones with the remote, does anyone find the remote very useful? or is it just another toy to play with?

Although I dont use them, I have to say that for stock earbuds, the apple earbud headphones are pretty good (dare I say great) quality.
I've used many high end PCDP's, and high end MD/R units, and by far, the earbuds that apple supplies are the highest quality.

i think the sony ex70-71's are a great boost in performance over the apple bud's at a decent value
not everyone has an extra $300 after the purchase of an iPod to go spend on some etymotic er-4's
# 14 Re: The new iPod headphones are good!
The EX70/71 are great at isolation and bass (and comfort), but Im not sure if they're necessarily better.
I think they sound more muddy than the stock earbuds (not by much though). However, in loud and populated areas, the EX70/71s definately have purpose.
The E888's are probably the best sounding sony earbuds you can get (they're only $10-15US more than the 70/71's). But lack the isolation.

I'd argue it the other way around Tiger.Girl. What's the point of using one of the best MP3 players in the world with a POS phone?

Hey! I have the 888's, I didn't knew that they were the best sounding sonys, but that makes me happy.
woohoo

like i said before alot of people dont have hundereds of dollars to spend on headphones i am sure nobody would have lower quality headphones by choice and while it maybe the best MP3 player on earth MP3 is definitaly not the best file format around also many people dont have a perfectly encoded MP3 collection all over 192k and i think it would be overkill at a certain point for the average iPod user
# 18 Re: The new iPod headphones are good!
I have to say that the iPod headphone is not bad. Of course, if I put on something real heavy bass, i gotta change the EQ a little bit so that the headphone can handle. I can live with that...!!
However, i can't seem to wear these headphones too long... my ears hurt after awhile...

I can't understand how anyone can get those apple earbuds to stay in for more than a minute. I find them totally useless, especially if you're commuting, moving around and walking up stairs, etc.
I'll stick with my sony street style behind the head model. Stays in place nice.

# 20 Re: The new iPod headphones are good!
Hmmm... I LOVE music. I play many instruments, and always have my iPod on. I however cannot tell the difference in sound quality as many other people can. I ripped a song in AAC using 128k, and 112k (around there), and I couldn't tell the difference. When the change is very far (128 to 64), then I hear it. Also, when people say mp3PRO is a bad format, I cannot hear the difference (I don't want this to start a format war, so i'll stop). I think that the earphones are very good. I like how they aren't made of crappy plastic (like those that come with expensive Sony players). The quality is very good (to me anyway), and they fit exceptionally well. I have large ears, and they slide right in.
If anyone can tell me what to listen for in songs to compare, tell me:)

Etymotic ER-6s are better than any earbuds Sony makes IMO. They also isolate extremely well. These can be picked up for ~90 dollars used. Headfi.com is a great resource when it comes to headphones, and you can find awesome deals in the FS/T forum.

No doubt about that, but they're also twice the cost. For that price, you might be able to get headphones (cans) that sound better than the ER-6s.

I love apple's earbuds. Yea, my ear did hurt for a few days when i had them on for a long time.
But now, (after month later) i bearly notice they are there anymore. I guess my ear adjusted to it and dosn't hurt or feel a thing.
They stay on so comfortably now. Sound quality? Hey, it's not bad. And yes, there will always be better things out there, apple's earbuds can be considered one of the high-end, just not 'high' high-end.

Use the stock earbuds untill you can save enough to buy the ER-6i's or the ER4P's. The ER4P's are soo soooooo sweet.

the stock ones have no bass at all

;)
# 28 Re: The new iPod headphones are good!
hey, for everyone that keeps sayin "ex70/71".. the ex70 and ex71 differ in sound, the ex71 are actually better.. you should be sayin ex51/71 because those are the same.. (different shape, same phones..)
not to be a stickler, but if people are readin these posts, and they see ex70/71... they might go out and buy the ex70 thinking they're the same, but they'll be pretty disappointed..

I think they sound great and all (maybe a little trebble), but if i go past half volume they starts buzzing which is as annoying as hell.
# 30 Re: The new iPod headphones are good!
i didn't even touch em. i sold em on ebay asap for 20 bucks
# 31 Re: The new iPod headphones are good!
Seriously... They kinda suck... No offense...
