mp3 160 --> 192kbps
I recently upgraded to a 40gig ipod from my old gen2 10gig. On my old ipod I encoded all my mp3's at 160kbps, but now that I have extra storage space I was thinking about re-encoding all my mp3's to 192kbps. Is there any program I could do that would do this easily for me? I want to be able to just set it to encode all my mp3's and leave it alone until it's done.. and the tags would still remain if that's possible... thanks for any help!! :)

Can't get somethin' from nothin'...
If your MP3's are encoded at 16kbps you cannot improve them to 192kbps. You'll need to re-rip your CD's at the new higher rate...
Personally, I cannot hear the difference between these 2 levels. Try it yourself with many artists/genres. Not worth the effort IMO. Many purists disagree...
Good lcuk!

Use CDEX (http://www.cdex.n3.net/) and rip mp3s at the --alt preset standard or --alt preset extreme. Those will encode VBR (variable bit rate) mp3s which are only slightly inferior to 320kbps mp3s and with smaller file sizes.
CDEX will tag automatically, you just have to select - CDDB > Read Remote CDDB.
