MP3s>AAC for free on windows?
does anyone know of a free program that encodes cd's to aac files for free? i know there are $30 programs here and there, but what is the best if i absolutely have to pay? I only have a 10gb ipod and it has less than 1 gb of space left and i plan on adding more so this would certainly help maximize space. I dont plan on buying the 30gb ipod for a while at least.

I'm successfully using a combination of freeware:
- Exact Audio Copy (eac) for ripping
- foobar2000 with libfaac (faac encoder)
- EphPod 2.71 beta [it populates iPod database tags from filenames]
Basically what I do is ripping CDs to WAVs files with EAC (Also I name the files from the beginning as "trackNumber Artist - Album - Song title" and set this pattern in EphPod so it can figure it later). Then I use foobar2000/libfaac and within two clicks I load the WAV files on the playlist and convert them directly to M4A. Finally I just add the songs to the iPod using EphPod. No more stuff required.
Also it seems that foobar2000 can tag mp4 files and EphPod is able to read them. I have to try it out. But I'm fine with the filename trick for now. In fact, as far as I know, the iPod doesn't care about tags: It gets the info from its own database, so no tagging sames a bit of hard disk space.
I will post a guide in more detail when i have the time.
