MP3 or OGG?
Well, which one is better and why?

Do your own listening tests and judge for yourself.
A lot of people (but not everyone) have already done this and
picked ogg as the better of the two. There is also the matter of
licensing. Mp3 is owned by a company, ogg is open source.
Of course, the iPod doesn't support ogg (yet).

OGG does sound better but I wouldn't get your hopes up that the iPod will ever support it, and I wouldn't buy an iPod if you expect to see OGG sometime in the future. Apple is really not going to do anymore firmware updates for gen1/2 pods, and since they released AAC it isn't likely that they would add support for OGG or WMA for that matter.

Very doubtful the iPod will ever support it.
OGG is far superior.
OGG @ -q 3 is better sounded than mp3 @ 128, and matchable to 160CBR.
I Rip OGG @ -q 4.5 and it sounds beautiful. 3-7 Is great quality, after 7 you cannot hear a difference.
