As I got off the elevator with the iPod in hand, I opened the apartment door and said "welcome home".

That was yesterday, and today as I sit writting this, my iPod is happily playing songs thru the dock's line out. (I connected it to the TV, cause my stereo's line in is already taken by the DVD)

First of all, let me say that the iPod (I call it Wilson. So that if I can't find it, I get to scream "WILSOON") it worked perfectly right off the bat.
No problems installing, or using it in any way.

I did run into problems tho, but not because of the iPod.
My 2nd HD, where my MP3s were, is kinda flaky, and it corrupts files every so often.
So when I first tried to load songs into the iPod, Ehpod crashed halfway thru it due to a corrupted song.
It's not a bad MP3, its a bad file, so it locked up the whole computer. Now I moved my MP3s to the C drive and that fixed that.

2nd problem I ran into is how Ephpod handled the Genre tags. All my genres were tagged my Tag & Rename using ID3v1 or v2.
So all the v1 tags that were coppied into v2 were blank in Ephpod.
I fixed it by retagging with ID3-tag-it.

So now, my iPod is fully charged, fully loaded with songs, and I'm a happy camper.

I find the sound quality very good, altho I'm not a buff. I mean, dont throw tomatoes at me, but a bitrate of 128 is just fine for me.

What else can I say? I havent used the iPod while on the move yet, so I dont know if it'll skip or not.

Well.. thats it. My iPod has 27.5Gigs of music, about 7300 songs, and I have a smile on my face.

Cheers.

Roland,

Just wondering, how do you know English so well? Are you from America or England orginally? Being that you are from Brazil. Sorry if I sound ignorant, just kinda curious.

And thanks for your post. I am planning on buying an ipod this week, a 30 GB. Do you find that it now holds all your music, or do you wish for more memory?

Thanks, Carlolove.

I'm a brazilian dude from brazil, but I did go to an American High-school here and then I went to college in Boston, so I speak English as well as my first language.. so you could say I have 2 first languages...

About the iPod, I've been using it for a couple of weeks now, and it has never crashed on me or skipped or anything... Of course, I use it 100% according to the manual... I never unplug it when it's mounted, etc.

Some people complain of slow menus.
I find that after unmounting the iPod, it does take a couple of seconds for it to access the main browsing menus like "genres" or "artists", but only on the 1st time. The next time you select a menu you've already been thru once, it's very fast, so that's not a problem.

I do have more songs that'll fit on the iPod, and for me, another few gigs would have been really helpful cause it's tough to select 3 gigs to leave out...
But on the other hand, 30 gigs is plenty, and I never feel like I'm missing out.

Ephpod is a great program, and its free, but I miss having a software with checkboxes where I can select what goes in the iPod and what doesnt.

vPod does have that, but it's not as robust in features as ephpod, so I don't use it.

And I'm not about to pay extra for some other software, so what I did was I created a folder called "not to iPod", and whatever's not going into the iPod, I leave there, so it's easy to know what to upload.

The remote control is nifty, but for walking around, it adds a lot of extra cord, and that's kind of a pain, so I only use it if I'm sitting around, and not while on the move.

All in all, the iPod is amazing. Every person I showed it to has been mindblown by it, so I'm sure you'll be happy with yours.

Have fun with it.

Later,

Roland.

[COLOR=orangered]I just got my 3rd gen. 10gig iPod for my 17th b-day... I almost went into shock when I opened it... I've wanted one ever since I saw the commercial for the very 1st generation of iPods like 2 or 3 years ago...then my step-dad bought a iMac G4 a while back and got a 2nd gen. iPod along with it... I was so jealous. I was extremely surprised... they also had it engraved for me...it said " Happy 17th B-Day Andrew!
