Just got my new ipod yesterday!
My new ten GB iPod arrived from Amazon yesterday. This is my first portable MP3 player and I am very impressed.
After instaling the apple software, I quickly uninstalled Music Match and the iPod Music Match plug-in and fired up Ephpod. It worked great, allowing me to transfer my music to the iPod at a quick pase. An album took about 15 seconds to transfer.
After loading some music on the iPod, I unmounted it and started listening. The sound quality is great, and it is verry easy to navigate around my music colection.
Other than the crappy Music Match software, my complaints with the ipod are miner. I would rather have mechanical buttons, since the touch buttons are extremely sensitive, requiring me to constantly use the hold switch. The earphones that come with it sound good but tend to fall out when moving around. This is no problem since I already have very good stereo headphones. There is also a small gap in between songs. This is only noticeable if you are listening to an album like Linkin Park's "Meteora" where the songs flow seemlessly between one another on the CD. It is also annoying that the ten GB model does not come with the dock. I plan to use my iPod a lot while it's connected to my home stereo system, so I'm going to have to buy the dock separately.
Overall, I'm very happy with my iPod and would recomend it to anyone who wants a good high capacity MP3 player.

Welcome. I hope you are as pleased with it as I was with my first (a G2-20). When I used to use Windows with it, I eventually started using ephod (a free download) to sync, because I grew to despise MMJB. But over time I switched to a mac and it does enhance the whole iPod experience.

hi!
I would say you will get used to using the touch sensitive buttons.
Getting a dock is a good idea - try to get one second hand. Alot of people who got theirs don't like it.

hey you don't actually need the dock to play it through your hi-fi system.
True, you can use the headphone jack, but I'd still recommend the Line out on the dock--the sound is much better if you're hooking up to an external source.

Yup, using line out, the audio signal does not have to go through an amplifier, which might distort the sound...
