Another new owner...
Just wanted to thank everyone for giving me the inside track on the coolest mp3 player in the world. I've wanted an iPod ever since they came out but the sleekness and size of the 3rd gen players was what finally sold me. So, I finally plunked $550 (sales tax included) for a 3rd gen 30GB iPod from Best Buy & their 4 year PSP. I had no problems with Best Buy matching Apple's educational discount price of $469. I just showed them a print out from Apple and they honored it.
So now I'm finishing up ripping all my cds into mp3s, fixing all the id3 tags, and downloading Ephpod onto my laptop. Hopefully everything will be up and running in time for me to enjoy some tunes while at work tomorrow.

"educational discount" ? Can you tell me where i would find such a discount on the apple page? I was gonna go to Best Buy tommorrow to buy me an iPod, and such a discount print-out would be nice.
What are the qualifications? I'm in high school, my dads a uni prof.

No doubt that this forum rocks!! BTW, I'm currently listening to the Chemical Brothers' Block Rockin' Beats on my iPod. It's never sounded better.

I went to the Apple Store for Education (http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/routingpage.html) and printed out the page that listed the prices for the the iPod. The education discount equates to $30.00 off the normal retail price. I showed the print out to a sales rep and asked them if Best Buy would match the price. I then told him if Best Buy couldn't then I would just order from Apple but the only reason I wanted to purchase the iPod from Best Buy was so I could buy their 4 yr PSP. He talked to his supervisor and his supervisor said it was ok. HTH!
