Apple customer support is awful

I bought a new 15gig iPod. Hurah!
I recieved a new 15gig iPod. Hurah!
I turned it on! Hurah!
I plugged it into my computer. :/
I installed the iPod software.
I tried to format the iPod. It couldnt.
I tried to format the iPod. It did, and worked sort of.
I checked the iPod was formatted. It was.
I transferred some files to the iPod. It worked.
I tried to play them. Curse that blasted folder+exclamation mark!
I formatted it again. It worked.
I transferred some files to it again. That worked too.
I tried to play them. Again with the not working.

I call Apple. They ask me what firewire card I have.
I say "DFW-500" it is also known as a "DRF-A3"
They say. "It's not WHQL."
I say "It has the same chipset as many WHQL certified cards."
I say "I can transfer music too and from it, perfectly, using firewire."
They say "Can't help you unless its WHQL"

The firewire card is a bit dodgey, i will admit. But it isnt the problem here unless its a very very excentric error. Im going to get another FireWire card soon. I dont have ?50+ to spend on a FireWire card so i'm getting a fully certified Adaptec one. My iPod is dead, and Apple dont believe me, and i have to spend another ?30 to get them to ackowldge that its DOA and have another one sent to me. I am not happy.

Apple, your customer support is awful.

You very well might find out that w/the Adaptec it works. The iPod is very particular about the cards it works with.

I know you've been able to transfer songs, but I've seen this before and a new card does the trick.

Funny, that they are touting WHQL now. When they first released WiPods, their "recommended" card (which didn't work btw), wasn't even WHQL certified.. Funny no? ;)

Sorry about your problems, but if it is the iPod they will make it right. And fairly quick.
