5gb Ipod

I am looking for a 5gb ipod first or second generation. used or new, if it is used I do not mind it having scratches on the back and must be working perfectly fine. i am willing to pay $100 for this ipod. if no one is willing to sell me one, where can i find one to buy?

Nowhere for $100. The cheapest I've seen was for an Apple refurb, ?105 (c.$150) plus taxes.

Jackonicko posted Fair second hand Prices and realistic expectations ( http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1647) a couple of months ago - his explanation may answer your point.

5 GB pods are scarce, and may even command a premium, because the poderati realise that they are the best iPods for jogging and serious exercise use. They also still have more accessories and cases which fit best, because the 2nd Gen 10 GB was thinner and the 20 GB was thicker. Also, for those with older computers with smaller HDs they may even be the most desirable. If I was using my wife's 10 GB iBook as the primary iPod machine, I wouldn't want or need bigger than 5 GB.

I think that people do often have unrealistic expectations of how much they should get when selling second hand pods, but expecting to get a 5 GB pod for $100 is equally unrealistic. It's going to cost you $150 (a very fair price) to $200, unless you're very lucky.

You can't expect iPods to be priced by the GB. A 5GB iPod is worth more than 1/2 a 10GB iPod, just as a 10GB iPod is worth more than 1/3 a 30GB iPod etc...

The hard drive is only one component of the overall cost of an iPod - think about the rest of the hardware that doesn't change, as well as the packaging, marketing and distribution.

That's why the current 10GB unit is $299 and the 30GB unit is only $499. By your reasoning, a 30GB iPod should cost $900 - 3x a 10GB iPod.

You won't see a 5GB iPod for $100 anytime soon, unless it is broken or stolen.

Poderati like Literati or Cognascenti. As you should know, MRM, since you are one of the Poderati.

Well I checked out that other thread and someone stated "The Apple store now has refurb 5gb for $149 for both Win or Mac." If a refurb is going for $149, why can't a used one with no warranty go for $100. Well I will just work for a week or so and save up $150. Hopefully, apple will have refurbs again, then I can buy it from them. #### EBAY!!!! thanks for everyones help.

That Apple Store refurb deal was a while ago. Check the site, there are no iPod deals right now.
