MONSTER cable is bogus

i am a sound eng for ABC news...

just in case people are wondering :

unless you are using super high end stuff...ie: a system in the thousands and thousands of dollars...and your room is physically designed for sound reproduction...

monter cable is a total rip off !!! ... overpriced ... etc ... some people think the whole theory with gold connections are even bogus ... a $5 optical cable is light years ahead

shop at radioshack and use your money saved to upgrade your speakers...amp with optical connections....etc...

Already confirmed by many many users here, as well as myself. RCA is the best, most cost effective way to go in most if not all audio applications involving the iPod.

Oh... I've sort of ordered it. I'll check if I can cancel it, because it is indeed a large amount of money.

I hope the Monster iSplitter has better price/performance?

I agree completely, optical cables absolutely own. I used to use them heavily when i had a Minidisk player ( 3 yrs back ) when it requires 1:1 copy time. They're simply amazing for carrying sound/video even.

Money Saving Tip:
Forget the expensive speaker cables running at ?/$30+ a metre - get some solid core 1.5mm twin & earth mains wiring cable (UK specs) and use that. (This is the stuff electricians use to wire your house, although not sure if the same type/gauge is used in the US).
I used it for ages on my set-up, until someone donated some Dali speaker cables to me (?30 a metre!!!), and the sound was just as good.

Monster cables tend to be more reliable. They are thicker, have better connectors, and use better conducting metals. Granted, radio shack also uses better conducting metals in their gold series cables, they are not as sturdy as monster cables. I believe that if you want to buy cables that work well, look ANYWHERE. If you want quality and a solid package, then you are going to have to look at monster cables, or other high end cables. By the way, the monster cable i have for my bass has a life time warranty. I can cut the head connector off of it right now, go to the store and walk out with a new one.

no doubt...the phsysical quality is there...

the point of this post :

point out that they are ripping everyone off with there ridiculous prices and bogus (inflated might be a better word) claims of better than everyone sound quality...

if they were really onto something new....dont you think that everyone would follow?...

they have an excellent sales force that BS you at high end dealers and sell overpriced products to unsuspecting people...they are as dirty as a low rate car dealership....

ask yourself....does that seem a high price for a f'n cable...

if the answer is :

YES IT DOES !!!!...

trust yourself...go to the shack or walmart or target or ebay

What the mind hears and sees, it believes. - Swordfish
What the mind believes, it hears and sees.

This could be said about people who buy monster cables and report an increase in quality. They just believe they have witnessed an increase in performance. Many cables deliver what Monster cables deliver, at a fraction of the cost.

That said, people who have >1000 dollar audio systems (myself) would not care about a few hundred dollars worth of cables, if the cables have a gaurantee to be replaced if they break. Optical cables break very easily, i went thru many radioshack optical cables. When i upgraded to Monster cables, i havent yet had to replace it.

My whole system consists of monster cables... svideo, speaker wire, subwoofer cables, rca cables. I can honostly say that after upgrading from the stock cables and radioshack / RCA brand cables, i have not increased a noticable boost in performance. The svideo cables and optical cables feel much more comfortable in regards to their seating, as do the RCA cables. In addition, the speaker wire connections are much more sturdy than just unscrewing the red and black knobs sticking the wire in and screwing it back in. They now use banana plugs.

The only place where i can say there *might* be a difference in quality is the svideo performance (maybe higher bandwidth resulting from better conductivity) and the subwoofer (signal might be cleaner).

I'm sorry, but I'm wondering why optical cables keep being brought up- at least in relation to the ipod. How is it possible to use an optical cable with the ipod? There aren't splitters/adaptors similar to versa jack to RCA cables for optical connections are there?

Although you need a good cable for good sound (and good speakers, but it starts with a good cable)... Gold plated, and all those are just some junk that the companies made to sell their products better... Just think, professionals arent even using the miniplug... They use the real audio cables.

Although I'm not sure the exact name of it, my favourite kind is the circular one with the three dots in it... I use them all the time for my band equiptment, and stuff...
