JBL Creature Speakers
I've been thinking about getting these speakers for my iPod but haven't found too many reviews about it.. anyone have one and can give me their thoughts on it? Also, if you know of other speakers that I can use with my iPod in that price range (under $150), feel free to post.
Thanks,
-J.

I would think, I'm not sure haven't tried it, that you could use any pc speakers with the ipod.

Yeah, I know that, just wondering which speakers are good :)

for that price range $150...I think you could probably get some Klipsche Pro Media 2.1 speakers. Those are probably better sounding than the JBL Creatures, but definitely not as cool looking.

Working at a major electronics retailer, I would not recommend the JBL creature speakers unless your main concern is how they will look rather than how they will sound. The JBL's retail for $129. At around $150, you can pick up a pair of Klipsch promedia 2.1's which are far superior sounding. I have heard both. Im my opinion the JBL's do not have very much volume, and the bass response is weak for speakers in this price range. I think that the Logitech Z-340's sound better, and they only sell for $50, as do the Altec Lansing 220's.
The Klipsch are definitely the best 2.1 system for under $200.

I'm a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 owner. These suckers are the BMW of PC speakers. Those JBLs definitely look cool but the Klipsch sound vastly better. Lots of good, clean bass too.

I have these speakers....and they are really good.
The sub is the best part. I got them at the Apple store for $99.
You won't be sorry!

# 9 Re: JBL Creature Speakers
I purchased two separate sets of Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 speakers. The first set, the subwoofer was DOA - didn't work out of the box.
That set was purchased direct from Klipsch for me by my wife for Christmas. It took three weeks of many, many calls to Klipsch customer "service" and finally threatening to write the president of the company before they finally sent a UPS drop pickup ticket to return them (and I was being relatively nice). Absolutely the worst customer service experience of my life. I asked for, and finally got a full refund on my wife's credit card.
Despite this, I really wanted these speakers, and I really wanted them to work. So, silly me, after the first set was returned, I went to CompUSA and bought a second set. Thank goodness I got a TAP (extended warranty). The second set lasted only a few weeks before the front channel went dead. I switched the connections at the subwoofer - it was the subwoofer connection / crossover network, not the speakers.
I returned them on the TAP and for the cost of the Klipsch speakers, I got a set of Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers with a tower subwoofer and a 512 MB DIMM for my iBook. The Altec Lansing speakers sound every bit as good as the Klipsch speakers did (for the few weeks they actually worked), and they were half the price. And, over a year later, they still work great.
While I am sure others have the Klipsch speakers and have had no problems with them, I found it a little too coincidental I purchased two sets that were defective. Plus, after my experiences, I did some reasearch on Usenet and found others who had quality control problems with the Klipsch speakers. Beware.

Tha was actually a known issue with the klipsch 5.1 system. Almost every set of 5.1's I've ever come across has blown the amp at some point in time. Fortunately, this was the only klipsh model with this problem. Their 4.1 and 2.1 systems have always been very reliable. In a 5.1 system I would recommend the logitech Z-680's.

I have the JBL speakers and I enjoy them. I didn't buy them for the "look" but for the sound. I listen to a lot of classical and "new age" type of music and controlling the bass and treble is easy. Just a light touch on the silver button on one of the speakers and I control the volume. Simplicity at its finest. And the all-white, glossy look of the speakers match the iPod.

I got the lovely white creatures to match my ibook & ipod. (yes, i am shallow). but i was surprised to find the superb sound quality. simple to use and the bass rules.
ps. i got it new for $94 on amazon.
